Maja Solveig Kjelstrup Ratkje (born December 29, 1973 in Trondheim ) is a Norwegian singer , live electronics technician and composer .

Live and act

Ratkje studied composition at the Norwegian Academy of Music from 1995 to 2000 , with Lasse Thoresen , Olav Anton Thommessen and Asbjørn Schaathun , among others . In the summer of 1999 she stayed at the IRCAM with Louis Andriessen , Sofia Gubajdulina , Ivar Frounberg , Klaus Huber , Jōji Yuasa and Kaija Saariaho .

Ratkje plays the theremin , laptop and violin. Together with Hild Sofie Tafjord , Kristin Andersen and Lene Grenager , she has formed the group Spunk since 1995 , with which she released numerous recordings; with Tafjord she formed the noise duo Fe-mail ( Syklubb Fra Haelvete , 2002), which is considered an “institution” in the Norwegian scene and which was expanded with Lotta Melin to become the Agrare trio .

In addition to an opera, Ratkje has composed symphonic and chamber music for film, theater and ballet. Her works have been performed by Klangforum Wien , Oslo Sinfonietta, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra , among others . She has worked with Jaap Blonk , Lasse Marhaug, Joëlle Léandre , Per Inge Bjørlo, Stephen O'Malley , Ikue Mori and Zeena Parkins . On the Molde International Jazz Festival she met in 2000 in the band Jazzkammer on Merzbow . With the group Poing she also interpreted Brecht songs ( Wach auf , 2011).

Prizes and awards

Ratkje was awarded the International Rostrum of Composers in Paris, the Norwegian Edvard Prize (twice) and in 2001 was the first composer to be awarded the Arne Nordheim Prize . Her solo album Voice was awarded the Prix ​​Ars Electronica 2003.
