Maków Mazowiecki (city center)

Maków Mazowiecki ( Polish until 1928 Maków nad Orzycem , German Makow , 1941-1945 Mackeim ) is a town and seat of the municipality of the same name in the Powiat Makowski of the Masovian Voivodeship in Poland .

geography

The city lies on the Orzyc ( Orschütz ), a tributary of the Narew . It has an area of ​​10.30 km². 58% of the urban area is used for agriculture, 9% is covered with forest.

history

From 1939 to 1945 Makow, renamed Mackeim from 1941, was the district town of the Mackeim district . In violation of international law, it was part of the new Zichenau administrative district of the East Prussian province .

During the occupation, from 1941 to 1942, there was a ghetto for around 3,500 Jews who were deported to the Treblinka extermination camp to be murdered.
