Makiko Futaki
Makiko Futaki ( Japanese 二 木 真 希 子 , Futaki Makiko ; born June 19, 1958 in Osaka Prefecture ; † May 13, 2016 in the city of Koganei in Tokyo Prefecture ) was an important Japanese animator and graphic artist , who mainly worked on numerous animes from Studio Ghibli , as well as works such as the science fiction animation film Akira .
biography
Makiki Futaki studied art at the Aichi University of Education and showed her first cine-calligraphy animation films as an amateur at the Private Animation Festival (PAF). Her professional career began as interim illustrator ( in-between animator ) for Telecom Animation Film , a subsidiary of TMS Entertainment , with an episode of the anime series Lupine III . Soon after, she went into business for herself.
She first worked with Isao Takahata , who later co-founded Studio Ghibli, on the film Jarinko Chie in 1981 , and since Nausicaä from the Valley of the Winds in 1984 she has been involved in all of Hayao Miyazaki's films, including The Castle in Heaven , My Neighbor Totoro , Princess Mononoke , Howl's Moving Castle and the Oscar-winning film Spirited Away . The last film made there with her participation was Memories of Marnie from 2015.
In many films key signatory ( key animator used), it played an important role in the Studio Ghibli. Hayao Miyazaki herself described her as "an important member of our animation team". Was its particular strength in the detailed representation of the animal - and plant life as well as delicate movements ( intricate and delicate motion ).
As a freelance artist, Makiko Futaki not only worked for Studio Ghibli, but also, for example, on Wings of Honneamise from Studio Gainax . She was also a key artist for the style-defining anime film Akira .
In addition, wrote and illustrated Makiko Futaki also children's books , with her the idea for the book The Tree in the Middle of the World ( 世界の真ん中の木 , Sekai no Mannaka no ki ) from 1989, according to his own statement during the visit of Yakushima National Park had come where she was researching for My Neighbor Totoro . She also did the illustrations for Nahoko Uehashi's Moribito novels .
Makiko Futaki died in May 2016 at the age of 57 in a Tokyo hospital.
