Malcolm Morley

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Malcolm Morley (born June 7, 1931 in London - † June 2, 2018 in New York City ) was a British-American painter who developed from photorealism to socially critical painting.

Morley soon found photorealism boring because it lacks the component of the statement. So Morley began socially critical painting. His painting depicts both advertisements - Morley repeatedly painted entire advertising pages from the magazine " Life " - as well as the painterly and content-related preoccupation with the press image. In the 1970s, images were created based on press images that had the war as a theme. Morley soon moved away from photorealism and hyperrealism , towards collage-like field painting.

Malcolm Morley is represented in some of the most important fine art collections after World War II.

In 1991, Morley was granted US citizenship; he lived and worked in New York City.
