Maleic acid diethyl ester is a chemical compound from the group of carboxylic acid esters and isomeric to fumaric acid diethyl ester .

Extraction and presentation

Maleate can be prepared by esterification of maleic acid or maleic anhydride with ethanol are recovered.

use

Diethyl maleate can be used in combination with amine hardeners for the polyaddition of epoxy resins . As an intermediate product, it is used in the production of other chemical compounds (e.g. succinic acid diethyl ester or the pesticide malathion ).

safety instructions

When heated above the flash point (93 ° C), the vapors of diethyl maleate form an explosive mixture with air.
