In between he was traded as the successor to Steffi Lemke as federal manager. However, Spitz announced that he would forego this candidacy in order to have more time for family and studies in the future. Instead, he successfully ran for the party council .
At the state party conference in Siegburg on 14./15. June 2014 Spitz was elected as a member of the board of the North Rhine-Westphalian regional association.
