Mamau is a former municipality in the Mostviertel in Lower Austria . It existed until 1968, when it was divided between the city of St. Pölten and the communities of Karlstetten and Neidling .

geography

Mamau stretched on the northwestern border of the city of St. Pölten, on the threshold of the Pielach-Traisen-Platte , from the southeastern foothills of the Dunkelsteinerwald to west of the city.

The community comprised, from north to south, the localities and cadastral communities Untermamau , Obermamau , Wernersdorf , Waitzendorf and Witzendorf . It had an area of 1303  hectares .

history

The place name Mumenowe can be found around 1180 (Yrmgardis de Mumenowe).

The community was founded with the creation of the local communities in 1848/49 . It was dissolved on January 1, 1969. Ober- and Untermamau came to Karlstetten, Wernersdorf to Neidling, and Waitzendorf and Witzendorf to St. Pölten. The distribution to the neighboring communities, to which the localities were already parish and schooled, took place at the request of the population.
