Manfred Böhmer (born September 21, 1936 in Solingen ; † June 5, 2016 ) was a German sports official and entrepreneur. From 1997 to 2001 he was President of the Association of German Cyclists (BDR).

Business career

Manfred Böhmer was a trained industrial clerk . First he worked in Remscheid until he went to Paris , where he was export manager at Cycles Peugeot from 1961 to 1965 . He used his good contacts to initiate a collaboration with the BDR: Starting with equipping the national team and promoting young talent through to equipping professionals , including Rolf Wolfshohl and Gregor Braun . He then headed a two-wheeler sales company and Peugeot branch in Radevormwald for 13 years . From 1979 on, Böhmer owned a general agency for world-famous French and Italian two-wheeler parts manufacturers in Cologne , and from 1990 to 1994 he was a partner and director of the Soubitez company in Clamecy , France , at that time Europe's largest manufacturer of bicycle lights. After Soubitez was sold to the Danish Marwi consortium, Böhmer took over representation for foreign companies and imported two-wheeler parts and sporting goods.

Career as a sports official

On March 22, 1997, Böhmer was elected President of the Association of German Cyclists (BDR) after having been Vice President under Werner Göhner for twelve years. During the four years of his tenure, the Germany Tour was revived , the World Cup status returned for a German road race and two world championships were held. In 2000 he was appointed to the Jury d'Appel, the highest authority in the field of competitions, for the Olympic Games in Sydney by the World Cycling Federation UCI .

Manfred Böhmer last lived in Wermelskirchen in the Bergisches Land .

Honors

Also in 2000 Manfred Böhmer was honored by the UCI with the highest award, the Merit UCI , among other things for his work in the rail commission of the world association. When he resigned as president in 2001 and resigned all his positions in cycling, he was made an honorary member by the BDR.
