Werner Göhner

Werner Göhner (born October 3, 1928 in Munich ; † July 1, 2008 there ) was a German sports official.

The lawyer was employed by the city of Munich from 1962. When Munich won the bid for the Olympic Games in 1972, he became commercial director of Olympia-Baugesellschaft in 1967 and from 1970 until his retirement in 1993 he was managing director of Olympiapark GmbH . In this role he was one of the organizers of the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.

He was also a city councilor from 1972 to 1978, most recently deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. In 1973 he became 1st Vice President of the Association of German Cyclists (BDR) and from 1981 to 1997 he held the office of president. Göhner was also Vice President of the World Cycling Federation UCI and President of the European Cycling Federation UEC . From 1985 until his health-related resignation in 1998, he was also treasurer of the NOK . He died at the age of 79.

He was awarded the Golden Ring of Honor of the City of Munich , the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class, the Bavarian Order of Merit and the Olympic Order of the IOC.
