David Lappartient (2018)

David Lappartient (born May 31, 1973 in Pontivy , Morbihan ) is a French politician and cycling official. Since 2008 he has been mayor of the Breton municipality of Sarzeau and has held other regional political offices. He belongs to the Les Républicains party .

From 2009 to 2017 he was president of the French cycling federation FFC , from 2013 to 2017 president of the European association UEC and vice-president of the world cycling association UCI . In September 2017 he was elected President of the UCI.

education and profession

David Lappartient graduated from the École spéciale des travaux publics, du bâtiment et de l'industrie (ESTP) in Paris and is a public works engineer . From 1998 to 2007 he worked as a surveyor and founded the Cabinet Géo Bretagne Sud .

Political commitment

In 2008 Lappartient was elected Mayor of Sarzeau and in 2011 President of the Communauté de communes de la Presqu'île de Rhuys . In February 2012 he also became President of the Syndicat intercommunal d'aménagement du golfe du Morbihan (SIAGM), which oversees the development of the Parc naturel régional du Golfe du Morbihan .

After his re-election as Mayor of Sarzau in 2014, he was elected President of the Communauté de communes de la Presqu'île de Rhuys . In January 2015 he became the first president of the Parc naturel régional du Golfe du Morbihan . In March 2015 he was elected President of the newly formed Canton Séné .

Functions in cycling

From 1997 to, David Lappartient was president of the cycling club Vélo Sport de Rhuys and from 1997 a member of the advisory board of the French association FFC. He is President of the Organizing Committee of the Grand Prix de Plumelec-Morbihan . In addition, he was treasurer and later vice-president of the association. In 2005 he became committee chairman at the UCI. He was elected President of the FFC in 2009 and re-elected in 2013. In March 2017 he gave up the presidency of the national association; he was succeeded by Michel Callot .

In March 2013, Lappartient was elected president of the European association UEC when he won the vote against the former Moldovan cyclist and president of the local association Andrej Tschmil . In the same year he became Vice President of the UCI and President of the Professional Cycling Council within the UCI.

In June 2017, David Lappartient announced that he would run against the previous incumbent, British Brian Cookson , in the new election of the UCI President scheduled for September . In September 2017 Lappartient was elected as the new President of the UCI. Former Swiss racing driver Rocco Cattaneo was his interim successor at the UEC .

Shortly after his election as UCI President, Lappartient announced that he would abolish the team time trials at UCI Road World Championships that were included in the 2012 World Cup program from 2020. This corresponds to the demands of the teams, of which only a few have participated in world championships.
