Peugeot Motocycles is a two- and three-wheel vehicle manufacturer owned by Mahindra & Mahindra Limited . The company was founded in 1926 under the name Cycles Peugeot , when the automotive and motorcycle divisions of Peugeot were divided into different companies for financial reasons. The company's headquarters and production site are in Mandeure , Beaulieu. Another plant is located in Jinan . The Dannemarie plant was closed at the end of 2012.

history

In 1882 Peugeot began manufacturing and marketing the first Peugeot bicycle, the "Grand Bi". The idea for this came from Armand Peugeot, who recognized the possibilities of this new means of transport during his studies in England. Due to the great success of the bicycle with the lion, the development and production of two and three-wheel vehicles was intensified. The first motorcycle was manufactured in 1898; in 1900, 20,000 bicycles were sold.

From 1919 on, business in both the automobile and motorcycle sectors was rather sluggish, so that the stock corporation became highly indebted. In 1926 the motorcycle and automobile divisions were completely separated, and Cycles Peugeot was created with a capital of 15 million francs. Beaulieu became the company's headquarters.

In 1984, Honda took a 10% stake in Société Mécanique du Haut-Rhin , a subsidiary of Cycles Peugeot that manufactures engines. This engagement was increased to 25% in 1985. After a merger with Aciers et Outillages Peugeot in 1987, the company ECI was founded. Honda withdrew from its shares and the company Peugeot Motocycles was founded, which was part of the Groupe PSA .

In January 2015, the Indian automobile manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra Limited and its subsidiary Mahindra Two Wheelers Limited acquired a majority stake of 51% in Peugeot Motocycles.

In October 2019 it was announced that Mahindra would take over Peugeot Motocycles completely.
