Manfred Böttcher (born October 28, 1933 in Oberdorla ; † January 2, 2001 in Berlin ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

In 1945, at the age of twelve, Manfred Böttcher received painting lessons in Mühlhausen from Figge, who advised him to take a humanistic school education. In 1948 he visited the Free School Community of Wickersdorf , which he left before graduating from high school, and studied painting at the Dresden University of the Arts from 1950 to 1955 . His teachers there included Wilhelm Lachnit and Heinz Lohmar . His talent was recognized early and after graduation he became a master student at the Academy of Arts with Heinrich Ehmsen . During this time, the "black pictures" were created, which some officials described as looking too backwards and thus strictly rejected.
