Manfred Böttcher (painter)
Manfred Böttcher (born October 28, 1933 in Oberdorla ; † January 2, 2001 in Berlin ) was a German painter and graphic artist .
Life
In 1945, at the age of twelve, Manfred Böttcher received painting lessons in Mühlhausen from Figge, who advised him to take a humanistic school education. In 1948 he visited the Free School Community of Wickersdorf , which he left before graduating from high school, and studied painting at the Dresden University of the Arts from 1950 to 1955 . His teachers there included Wilhelm Lachnit and Heinz Lohmar . His talent was recognized early and after graduation he became a master student at the Academy of Arts with Heinrich Ehmsen . During this time, the "black pictures" were created, which some officials described as looking too backwards and thus strictly rejected.
In 1956 Manfred Böttcher took part for the first time in the annual exhibition of the Academy of the Arts with the painting Male Portrait . After a stay of several months in Dresden, he returned to Berlin in 1961 and worked there as a freelancer.
During his studies in Dresden he got to know Werner Stötzer , Dieter Goltzsche and Harald Metzkes , who were lifelong artist friends.
Böttcher died in 2001 and was buried in the Berlin-Kaulsdorf cemetery.
Manfred Böttcher is the older brother of the painter and sculptor Joachim Böttcher .
