Surf wins
Surf Twins the twins call Manfred and Jürgen Charchulla (* 30th January 1939 in Wittenberge , East Prussia), who have made themselves as pioneers for the sport of windsurfing deserves. They standardized the training and founded a training association, published numerous textbooks and initiated the first European surf museum in Fehmarn on the south beach.
Life
The twins grew up on the Frischen Nehrung or on the Frischen Haff and in 1945 they reached the west via the frozen lagoon. From the age of 15, they went to sea for 15 years. In 1973 they founded one of the first surf shops in the world in Bremen. In 1974 Manfred Charchulla conducted the first windsurfing courses on the German coast in Körbecke at the Möhnetalsperre and on Sylt .
In 1975 they settled in Fehmarn / Südstrand on Burger Binnensee and founded a surf school. For many years an old ambulance served as a mobile home. During the winter months they ran a surf school on Gran Canaria . They founded the “Norddeutsches Windsurfer Centrum” surf school association, which was later incorporated into the Association of German Sport Boat Schools.
On May 18, 2007, they opened the "Surfmuseum Fehmarn" - the first windsurf museum in Europe - in the atrium of the Burger Südstrand holiday complex. As bizarre originals and because of their alternative lifestyle, they are often guests on talk shows.
They still run the kite and surf school “Surftwins Charchulla” and a Caribbean bar on Fehmarn. Her steel band “The Steeltwins” will also perform there.
Sporting successes
- They were the first surfers to cross the English Channel on a tandem on May 25, 1975 .
- On May 10, 1977 they crossed the Skagerrak in 14 hours with a tandem from Hanstholm ( Denmark ) to Mandal ( Norway ) without a dinghy .
