Manfred Clemenz

Manfred Clemenz (born December 6, 1938 in Stuttgart ) is a German sociologist , social psychologist , psychotherapist , university professor and art historian .

Life

From 1958 Manfred Clemenz studied economics , philosophy and psychology in Freiburg (among others with Martin Heidegger ) and Cologne , economics and American literature at the Brandeis University Massachusetts , sociology and philosophy in Frankfurt am Main (among others with Th.W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer ) as well as sociology and psychosomatics in Gießen (among others with Helge Pross and Horst-Eberhard Richter ). From 1964 he received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation .

He received his doctorate in 1969 in the subjects of sociology and psychosomatics, completed his habilitation in 1971 (cumulative) on the subject of "Social Origins of Fascism" and in 1972 became Professor of Sociology of Education at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt . In 1989 he became professor of sociology with a focus on social psychology and in 1999 professor of sociology with a focus on clinical social psychology. His research and teaching focus was initially in the areas of philosophy of science , research on fascism and right-wing radicalism, educational and socialization theory, and psychotherapy research.

From 1978 onwards he worked in family therapy, and from 1982 onwards, cooperation began with specialist institutions such as the Frankfurt educational counseling centers, the Sigmund Freud Institute and the Frankfurt Psychoanalytical Institute . After further training at the Institute for Group Analysis in Heidelberg with a degree as a group analyst , he has been a group and individual therapist in his own practice since 1986.

From 1984 to 1995, together with Arno Combe, he headed the Center for Psychosocial Research and Counseling in Frankfurt. From 1990 to 1994 he was the project manager of the research and training project “Psychoanalysis in Further Education” on behalf of the European Community's Social Fund and headed the entire project together with Arno Combe in cooperation with the Sigmund Freud Institute in Frankfurt.

From 1990 his research focus was "Sociology of Social Transformations". Long-term studies based on in-depth interviews on social change in the new federal states (since 1990), as well as "Changing Life Styles in Russia", in cooperation with the Academy of Sciences in Moscow.

In 1999 he received his specialist license to practice as a psychological psychotherapist with proof of specialist knowledge for deep psychological psychotherapy in accordance with the new regulations of the Psychotherapists Act .

Teaching abroad

From 1991 to 1998, Clemenz was visiting professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Faculty of Sociology of Education) and since 1998 visiting professor at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Faculty of Sociology of Education).

Art historian

After his retirement in 2004, Clemenz completed a degree in art history at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, graduating with a Magister Artium in 2009. Since then, numerous publications have been made in the field of art history and art theory . Since 2000 he has been artistically active in the context of exhibitions of pictures and objects.
