Manfred Kappeler

Manfred Kappeler (born February 11, 1940 ) is a German social pedagogue , child and adolescent psychotherapist , emeritus professor for social pedagogy at the TU Berlin (1989–2005) and non-fiction author.

Life

After training as a baker and training at a technical school for social work , he worked as a pedagogue in home education from 1960 to 1968 . In the 1960s / 70s, he participated in criticizing home and welfare education through the home campaign and in developing alternatives to welfare education. He worked as a teacher in training and study courses for educators , church social-pedagogical specialists, social workers and graduate educationalists and as a supervisor of pedagogical specialists in homes and youth groups . Kappeler worked in probation service for open youth work and drug work.

Services

His further training as a psychagogue at a psychoanalytical institute had aspects of covert research in the style of Günter Wallraff : Kappeler was able to gain a lot of knowledge about questionable rules of the game "inside" through his participation and wrote a book in 1977 (together with Klaus Holzkamp and Ute Holzkamp-Osterkamp ) about his rejected, critical-psychological thesis. He carried out evaluations of specialist publications and empirical research projects or reports that were based on participant observation or were catamnestic investigations and published numerous scientific papers on home education. His main research interests were out -of-school youth work , out-of-home care for children and young people and drug policy effects and changes in the theory and practice of drug help .

He supports the concerns of the former children in the home in political and professional bodies, in the media and in the professional community and advocates uncompromising recognition of the past guilt of those responsible in youth welfare , especially from the point of view of the sexual violence against children, which is also often exercised in homes and young people. He is also a member of the Schildower Kreis , which advocates the legalization of drugs .

In 2015, Kappeler received the Federal Cross of Merit for his services in coming to terms with the history of childcare in homes .
