Life

Manfred Otte was born during the Second World War . He studied violin at the Halle Conservatory. Then he was 2nd concert master at the Altmark Theater in Stendal. He later moved to Görlitz as first concertmaster . In 1969 he became a member of the Dresden Philharmonic , at the time directed by Kurt Masur . As such, he regularly took part in the Handel Festival .

He complemented his musical training with private organ lessons and developed a preference for the pre-classical music . In Halle (Saale), Otte then headed two high-performance ensembles: from 1972 he directed the Collegium instrumentale chamber orchestra , which specialized in baroque music but played modern instruments , with whom he worked in the Eastern Bloc (Bulgaria, Poland, Soviet Union) and in Algeria in the 1970s as well as in non-socialist countries (Argentina, Italy, Mexico, Finland, Tunisia). He deliberately made partly contemporary music playing, he was responsible for the premieres of the Chamber Symphony II by Gerd Domhardt (1976) and the "Nocturne" by Georg Katzer (1979).

In 1974 he founded the Barock Consort Halle , which had to be renamed Hallesches Consort . This performed with historical instruments and formed the basis for the new special ensemble Handel Festival Orchestra .

Award
