Manfred Stantke

Manfred Stantke (born April 12, 1927 in Liegnitz ) is a former German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador to Tunisia and the State of Palestine .

Life

After 1945 Stantke was resettled in the Soviet occupation zone and joined the SED . He qualified as a qualified engineering economist and worked until 1971 as a division manager at the Institute for Post and Telecommunications in Berlin. He then entered the diplomatic service. From 1973 to 1979 he worked as counselor at the GDR embassy in Belgium . From 1979 to 1985 he was Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary of the GDR in France and from October 8, 1986 to 1990 Ambassador to the Republic of Tunisia. On September 15, 1989, he was received in Tunis by the President of the State of Palestine and chairman of the Executive Committee of the PLO , Yasser Arafat , to receive the letter of credence as the GDR's ambassador to the State of Palestine. On February 22, 1990, the GDR Council of Ministers proposed to the Chairman of the Council of State that Stantke be recalled as the GDR's ambassador to the Republic of Tunisia and the State of Palestine.
