Manganese (II) nitrate is the nitrate salt of manganese with the empirical formula Mn (NO 3 ) 2 .
Extraction and presentation
Manganese (II) nitrate can be represented by dissolving manganese (II) carbonate in dilute nitric acid :
Production by reacting manganese (IV) oxide with nitrogen dioxide is also possible .
properties
Manganese (II) nitrate is a pale pink, hygroscopic solid that is very soluble in water. It decomposes from a temperature of 140 ° C. Manganese is in the +2 oxidation state . The salt forms a monohydrate, a trihydrate or a hexahydrate depending on the production method and temperature. Like many other nitrates, it is an oxidizing agent and has a fire-promoting effect.
use
Manganese (II) nitrate is used to produce high-purity manganese oxides, spinels and porcelain paints. In addition, it is used in grain cultivation as a foliar fertilizer to promote root formation.
