The Manpupunjor rock formation ( Russian and Mansi Маньпупунёр ; also Мань-Пупу-Нёр , Man-Pupu-Njor ) even seven strong men or poles of the Komi Republic , consists of seven rock pillars . It is located on the western flank of the Urals in Rajon troitsko-pechorsk the Komi Republic in Russia , (named after the rivers in Petschoro-Ilytschski Reserve Pechora and Ilych River ) on the same mountain or plateau Man-Pupu-Njor, between the rivers Ilych and Piusa . The 30 to 42 meter high, out of place-looking rocks resemble human outlines, which is why they appear as idols in the mythology of the Mansi . Today you are one of the " Seven Wonders of Russia ".

Emergence

The rock formations are the remains of an eroded mountain range, which was at this point about 200 million years ago. The rocks consist of metamorphic rock ( mica schist ).

tourism

The Manpupunjor Columns are a national tourist attraction. They are quite remote: the next larger town Troizko-Pechorsk is 165 km to the west. However, the number of visitors increases every year. There are currently four routes to the plateau:

  • from the Komi Republic along the reserve's mountain range
  • a hiking trail starting in Sverdlovsk Oblast over the Djatlow Pass, the Otorten Mountains and the Pechora Spring
  • organized touristic by helicopter.
  • from the east via the ski trail from "Trjochretschje" ("three-river country", the confluence of the rivers Kotlija and Luzoulja into the Great Soswa, the left source river of the Northern Soswa )

Part of the path from the Sverdlovsk Oblast was officially banned in 2004 in response to caused by tourists dirt for car traffic to the Petschoro-Ilytschski Reserve and the ivdel protect -Reservat. According to Article 8.39 of the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses , camping in the reserve is only permitted after coordination with the reserve management.
