Manucho (born March 7, 1983 in Luanda , real name Mateus Alberto Contreiras Gonçalves ) is an Angolan football player on the position of the winger .

Career

Clubs in the youth

Manucho began playing football at the local Flamenguinhos club . Under his coach and father there, Manucho matured into one of the top players in his team.

Early career

His first club as a professional was Sport Luanda e Benfica , a mid-range club in the Angolan league. After three years he finally moved to Petro Atlético, where he was only able to assert himself in 2006 and scored 16 goals. 2007 scored another 15 goals for Atlético Petróleos Luanda .

Manchester United

In January 2008 he moved from Petro Atlético to Manchester United and signed a contract dated until 2010. However, before playing a game for Manchester United, he was loaned to Panathinaikos Athens for the 2007/08 season. He had not previously received a work permit. In July 2008 Manucho returned to Manchester United and took part in the pre-season; shortly thereafter, the player was given a work permit. In January 2009, Manucho was loaned to Hull City after just one game for Manchester .

Panathinaikos (loan)

In his league debut for Panathinaikos Athens he scored a goal (Panathinaikos won against Larissa 2-0). At the end of the season, Panathinaikos was in third place in the table and thus qualified for international business. In the qualifying tournament Manucho scored three goals in six games, so that Panathinaikos were group winners and could move into the UEFA Champions League . In his seven league appearances for Panathinaikos, Manucho scored four goals. At the end of the season he returned to Manchester United.

Hull City (loan)

On January 16, 2009, the loan was confirmed by the newcomer. He made his debut as a substitute on January 17 in a 3-1 defeat by Arsenal . On March 3, 2009 Manucho scored his first Premier League goal, the 1-0 in the 90th minute against Fulham .

Real Valladolid

After the loan to Hull City ended, he was scheduled to return to Manchester United. However, he decided to leave the club in the direction of Spain to Real Valladolid. Manucho signed a five-year contract. After his first year in the Primera División , in which Manucho scored four goals in 28 appearances, he was awarded to Turkey for the 2010/11 season. He spent the first half of the season at Bucaspor, in the second half of the season he played for Manisaspor. In the summer of 2011 he returned to Valladolid, which had meanwhile been relegated to the Segunda División . In the 2011/12 season he made 18 appearances and four goals for Real, helping to get promoted to the Primera División.

Bucaspor (loan)

Real Valladolid loaned it to Turkish newly promoted Bucaspor in July 2010 . He made his debut on August 23 in a 0-0 draw against Kasımpaşa Istanbul . On the following match day on August 28, Manucho scored his first Süper Lig goal, 3-1 in the 90th minute of the final against Gençlerbirliği Ankara .

Manisaspor (loan)

After the loan to Bucaspor ended, he was loaned to Manisaspor in February 2011 until the end of the season.

Rayo Vallecano

For the 2014/15 season Manucho was signed by Rayo Vallecano . There he played until the summer of 2018 and scored 14 goals in 112 league games.

UE Cornellà

On September 18, 2018, third division UE Cornellà announced the commitment of the player. But after the season the contract was not extended and Manucho has been without a new club since then.

National team

Manucho played internationally for his home country Angola from 2006 to 2017. He was an integral part of his team in qualifying for the Africa Cup of 2008 . In January 2008 he was appointed to the selection for the Africa Cup 2008 in Ghana. There he scored his team's first goal at the Africa Cup in the first game against South Africa. In the other games followed a total of three more goals from Manucho. In the game against Senegal , he even managed a brace. In the quarterfinals, however, Angola failed 2-1 to Egypt , the eventual winner of the tournament. Manucho scored the goal for his team here. In total, he was able to record four goals in four games at the end of the tournament. At the end of the tournament, Manucho was voted into the top eleven.

Manucho is also in the Angolan squad for the 2010 Africa Cup. In the opening game against Mali , he scored a goal with a penalty.
