Manuel J. Hartung
Manuel J. Hartung (born September 16, 1981 in Fritzlar ) is a German journalist and book author .
Career
After graduating from the Jacob-Grimm-Schule Kassel and doing community service in Kassel , Hartung completed an apprenticeship as a journalist at the Henri-Nannen-Schule in Hamburg . After working as an editor for the weekly newspaper Die Zeit , he began studying history, law and psychology at the University of Bonn and New York University in 2004 , completing a Magister Artium . As a McCloy Scholar , he also earned a Master of Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University ; During this time he was also Course Assistant to the political scientist Joseph Nye . During his studies he founded the online magazine StreitBar together with fellow students and published “Manuels Bonn-Log” about life on campus in Bonn on Spiegel Online .
From the first edition in October 2006, Hartung helped to build up Zeit Campus (the student magazine of Zeit Verlag ) as deputy editor-in-chief . On July 1, 2007, he became editor-in-chief . Since May 2011 he has been running a Zeit-Verlag company.
In 2007 Hartung published the book “Der Uni-Roman” in the series Piper and together with Christian Berg in DTV the non-fiction book “World save for beginners. 30 reasons for a clear conscience ”. Together with Cosima Schmitt , he wrote the non-fiction book “The nice years are over. Live more beautifully in the permanent crisis ”( Campus-Verlag ). He co-edited “Wissen to go” with Thomas Kerstan .
In addition, Hartung worked for four semesters as a lecturer at the University of Göttingen . He also teaches at the Academy of the Bavarian Press in Munich.
Hartung has received several awards for his work as a journalist, including the Axel Springer Prize for young journalists and the Arthur F. Burns Fellowship . Zeit Campus received a silver lead award as “Newcomer of the Year” .
During school, Hartung was involved as a head boy , in the student union and in the Catholic Church . Today he is a member of “ Think Tank 30 ” of the Club of Rome .
