Her works are characterized by lightness, elegance and the skillful, sometimes unusual play with color and light effects as well as an often amazing spatial effect.

biography

Manuelle Gautrand is the only daughter of Alain Gautrand (1924–2003) and Janine Huvig (1927–2008), both DPLG architects who graduated in 1954 from the Paris Beaux-Arts , architecture department. Janine Gautrand was the 1957 winner of the “Cinq Semaine” architecture prize awarded by the Société des Architectes Diplômés par le Gouvernement.

Manuelle Gautrand received her DPLG Architectural Diploma from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Montpellier in 1985 . After completing her studies, she worked from 1986 to 1990 as an employee in various Paris architecture firms, including for Adrien Fainsilber; from 1987 as project manager.

In 1991 she founded her own company in Lyon , since 1993 in Paris ( MANUELLE GAUTRAND ARCHITECTURE ). The office is an architectural firm of 20 in 2020 with public and private clients in France and abroad, although the most famous projects have been realized in Paris and Lyon. To “re-enchant” the city and thus to arouse emotions, to reinvent it, to renew, to be innovative and to propose unexpected answers, to be courageous and pluralistic, are the basic principles of the architecture of Manuelle Gautrand.

She has completed projects of various kinds, from residential and office buildings to cultural and leisure facilities. Her showroom C42 Citroën on the Champs-Élysées brought her international recognition. In 2008 she converted the Gaîté-Lyrique theater into a center for modern music and digital art and received an order for the AVA tower in La Défense . On an international level, she designed a car dealership in Cairo and recently took part in the competition for the new Munch Museum in Oslo.

She has held various advisory functions, including since 1998 in the Mission interministérielle pour la qualité des constructions publiques . Teaching: 1999/2000 École spéciale d'Architecture in Paris (2001/02 visiting professor); 2000-03 École Nat. supérieure d'Architecture Paris-Val-de-Seine ; since 2002 École nationale supérieure d'Architecture de Bretagne in Rennes. She frequently takes part in architecture workshops across Europe. In 2009 she taught at the Vienna University of Technology and in 2010 at the Florida International University School of Architecture .
