María Paz Ríos Lama (born October 13, 1989 ) is a Chilean javelin thrower .

Athletic career

María Paz Ríos gained her first international experience in 2006 at the South American Youth Championships in Caracas , where she took fifth place with a width of 39.39 m. The following year she won the bronze medal at the Junior South American Championships in São Paulo with a throw at 45.06 m and was then fourth at the Pan American Junior Championships there with a throw at 43.00 m. In 2008 she took part in the Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz , but was eliminated there with 44.89 m in qualification. In 2010 she reached the U23 South American Championships in Medellín , which also represented the South American Games, with 44.11 m ranked fifth and the following year she was ninth at the South American Championships in Buenos Aires with 46.34 m. In 2013, she finished fifth at the Summer Universiade in Kazan with 52.06 m, and the following year she finished sixth at the South American Games in Santiago de Chile with 51.64 m. In 2015 she won the bronze medal at the South American Championships in Lima with 51.12 m behind the Brazilian Jucilene de Lima and Flor Ruíz from Colombia. Then she took part again in the student world games in Gwangju , but this time retired with 51.10 m in the qualification.

In 2016 she finished fifth at the Ibero-American Championships in Rio de Janeiro with 53.07 m and at the 2017 South American Athletics Championships in Luque she was sixth with 50.22 m. In 2018 she took part in the South American Games in Cochabamba for the third time and reached fourth place with a width of 53.32 m. The following year she classified herself at the South American Championships in Lima with 49.16 m in fifth place and at the Pan American Games there she was tenth with 53.66 m.

In 2006, 2009 and 2010, 2012 and 2019, Ríos became the Chilean javelin champion.
