María Vicente García (born March 28, 2001 in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat ) is a Spanish triple jumper and heptathlete . Since 2018 she has held the U18 world record in heptathlon.

Athletic career

María Vicente gained her first international experience at the U18 World Championships 2017 in Nairobi , where she won the gold medal in the heptathlon with 5612 points. Then she won with 13.72 m at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Győr in the triple jump. In 2018 she won the U18 European Championships with a new world record of 6221 points in the heptathlon there. In addition, she also won gold in the triple jump with 13.95 m and prevailed in a high-class competition against Bulgarian Aleksandra Natschewa . So she qualified for the European Championships in Berlin , where she was eliminated with 13.50 m in the first round. In October she won the silver medal behind Natschewa at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires with 13.67 m. In 2019 she improved the Spanish indoor pentathlon record in Antequere to 4412 points and qualified for the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow , where she came ninth with 4363 points. In mid-July she won the U20 European Championships in Borås with a new Spanish record of 6115 points in the heptathlon and could not finish her final race with the Spanish 4 x 100 meter relay.

In 2019 Vicente became Spanish champion heptathlon and indoor pentathlon.
