geography

Spring streams

Schmieheimer Dorfbach

The Schmieheimer Dorfbach is the north-eastern and right-hand source brook about two kilometers long. It is on the main hydrological strand.

The Schmieheimer Dorfbach rises on the western edge of the Black Forest at an altitude of 390  m above sea level. NHN east of Kippenheim - Schmieheim in a coniferous forest at the western foot of the up to 424.9  m high Sandbühl .

It initially flows in an arc between the Fronholz forest in the south and the Affenberg in the north, first west-northwest and then west-southwest through the Klinge biotope south of Affenberg . It then passes the village of Schmieheim and then flows southwest of the village near a wet meadow with the other stream to form the Altdorfer Dorfbach .

Another stream

The other brook is the east and left source brook about one and a half kilometers long and is hydrologically a tributary of the Kapuzinerbach.

The other brook arises from three source branches. Its main source load is called the book moat . This rises at an altitude of 339  m in a mixed forest southwest of Schmieheim under the Heidenkopf saddle between the Black Forest border mountains Sandbühl in the north and the high valley in the south. He initially flows west-north-west through the forest and then takes a good half a kilometer bach down coming from the south second Quellast on, which results from the longest Quellast from the western slopes of the high valley and the outflow of Vermins lying on a slope Hubertus well formed. Still called Buchgraben, the combined stream now flows almost two hundred meters through the Buchgraben biotope south of Schmieheim to the north and is then strengthened on its right by the third spring branch coming from the east, which follows the edge of the forest. From there, the strand is now called the other stream .

This now runs on an almost western course along the southern edge of the village, separating the sports facilities from the residential area and then merging with the Schmieheimer Dorfbach to form the Altdorfer Dorfbach .

course

Altdorfer Dorfbach

The Altdorfer Dorfbach immediately crosses under the K 5342 and then, accompanied by a strip of wood, flows along its western side between the Galgenberg on the right and the Jewish Association cemetery Schmieheim on the left on the Schwabshalden slope . It then runs southwest through a reed bed and then through the fields and meadows of the Riedacker corridor , along the northwest side of the runway of the Altdorf-Wallburg airfield . Shortly above the runway, a branch branches off to the left, which then flows back just under two kilometers further down west of the building of the St. Landelin Riding and Driving Association at an alder field. From then on, the stream runs westwards and partly underground through the Ettenheim district of Altdorf , crosses under the B 3 and then turns to the north. At the end of the village it flows east past the local sports fields through the Süße Matten corridor and then takes up the comparatively short Mattengraben on its left . From there, the Altdorfer Dorfbach changes its name and is now called Kapuzinerbach .

Kapuzinerbach

The Kapuzinerbach, sometimes also called the Kapuzinergraben , first flows further north and is then fed by the Riedgraben coming from the east-southeast at the Pfarrfeldele corridor on its right . The Kapuzinerbach now flows northwest through the southwestern part of the small town of Mahlberg and takes on the St. Andreas Graben on its left at the western end of the village, which roughly follows the settlement boundary . The Kapuzinerbach now runs steadily west-northwest through fields and meadows, crossing the Rhine Valley Railway and a little later the A 5 / E 35 . Southwest of the Allmendhöfe in the Pfeifensack corridor, the (Grafenhausener) Dorfgraben flows on the left , a right branch of the neighboring Ettenbach in the south. The Kapuzinerbach then runs through the Neumatt corridor and then along the southwestern edge of the Ellenbogenwald . In the Trisloch corridor , opposite a sewage treatment plant on the right, a diversion canal branching off from the Elz strengthens it.

The Kapuzinerbach finally flows at about 158  m in the Rhine floodplain forest Breitsand, a little before the outer flood dam of the river, from the right into the Elz, which runs there near the Rhine .

Catchment area

The catchment area of the Kapuzinerbach is 24.1 km² and its upper part, from a natural point of view, lies in the sub-area of the Central Black Forest of the Black Forest , with the western sub-area in the Lahr-Emmendinger foothills of the Offenburg Rhine plain belonging to the Upper Rhine Plain . It is drained via the Elz and the Rhine to the North Sea.

In turn, the catchment areas of the following neighboring waters are adjacent:

  • in the east lies the headwaters of the Sulzbach , which flows to the Schutter
  • in the south the Ettenbach partly drains the adjoining area via its right tributaries
  • in the north the Schutter competes, for the most part via its large left tributary Unditz .

Tributaries

  • Schmieheimer Dorfbach (right source stream), 2.1 km
  • Another brook ( left source brook ), 0.8 km (with book moat 1.5 km)
