Marcel Pott
Marcel Pott (* 1946 near Cologne) is a German journalist , author , publicist and lawyer and is considered a Middle East and Islam expert. He lives in Bonn .
Life
Family and previous career
Marcel Pott was born in 1946, the last of six children near Cologne. His father was a lawyer at the Higher Regional Court in Cologne. Marcel Pott first studied politics, history and philosophy. However, he broke off this course and began studying law. During his studies he worked as a freelancer for the Kölner Stadtanzeiger . In the mid-1970s he went to New York as a trainee lawyer to do an internship at the United Nations . He then worked as a lawyer in Cologne and Paris.
journalist
Since 1978 he worked as a political editor at WDR -Horfunk. His first major reports were the Herstatt Trial and the Kurt Lischka Trial in Cologne. But he saw his future in political journalism and as a foreign correspondent. For this reason he went to Beirut in 1982 as a war correspondent to report on the Lebanon war . In the next few years he worked as a foreign correspondent in Beirut and Amman as head of the ARD radio studio. Here he wrote his first book in collaboration with Renate Schimkoreit , which deals with everyday life, culture and the political structure in Beirut and Lebanon . In 1992 he returned to Germany and until 1997 was the chief editor of the ARD television studio in Bonn.
Author and publicist
In 1997 he returned to Amman for research purposes and worked as a freelance writer and publicist. Marcel Pott now lives in Germany again. In addition to the publication of non-fiction books, he appears as an expert on television or writes commentaries for Deutschlandfunk or newspapers such as Die Zeit or Aus Politik und Zeitgeschichte . In addition, he often gives lectures or takes on teaching assignments at German universities.
