Marcel Schwander
Marcel Schwander (born December 30, 1929 in Netstal , Canton Glarus ; † June 13, 2010 in Clarens , Canton Vaud ) was a Swiss journalist and literary translator .
Life
Marcel Schwander studied political science at the University of Bern and at the Paris Sorbonne and received his doctorate in 1956. phil. He is the author of numerous books on French-speaking Switzerland and its mentalities .
From 1958 he was editor-in-chief of the Seeländer Volkszeitung in Biel . From 1968 to 1994 he was a correspondent for the Zürcher Tages-Anzeiger for western Switzerland, from where he reported on political, social and linguistic events. During this time he also worked as a literary translator. Thanks to him, books by Jacques Chessex , Catherine Colomb , Georges Haldas and Alice Rivaz were translated into German for the first time.
Marcel Schwander was also politically active. Between 1960 and 1968, he was a member of the city council of Biel for the SP and for a time the Bernese Grand Council .
