from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marcelle Gerar , pseudonym of Marcelle Regerau , (born June 26, 1891 in Brussels ; † 1970 ) was a French singer (soprano) and interpreter of classical music of the first half of the 20th century.

Life

Marcelle Regerau was a. a. trained with the soprano Ninon Vallin (1886–1961). She began her career after the end of the First World War and devoted herself to concert and lieder singing, primarily contemporary French music. Arthur Honegger , Jacques Ibert , Darius Milhaud , Albert Roussel and Florent Schmitt dedicated song compositions to her. In 1923 she met Maurice Ravel , who composed Ronsard à son âme for her , which they premiered together on April 26, 1924 at the Aeolian Hall in London . Ravel repeatedly accompanied her on the piano and performed with her in Spain.

Gerar worked as a singing professor at the École Normale de Musique de Paris . After Ravel's death she edited a collection of his letters.

The Dutch composer Rudolf Escher (1912–1980) dedicated the Air pour charmer un lézard to her in 1953 as a reminder of a visit to Ravel's residence in Montfort-l'Amaury in 1950.

In 1920 Gerar married the French puppeteer Marcel Temporal , with whom she had three children.
