Marco Di Sapia (* 1977 in Genoa ) is an Italian actor and opera singer ( baritone ) who lives and works in Austria.

Life

Marco Di Sapia was born in Genoa and grew up in Rome , where he also went to German school. He received his acting training in Rome. In Italy he played in several theater, film and television productions, such as Un oscar per due (directed by Felice Farina) or Nemici d'Infanzia (directed by Luigi Magni). In 1997 he moved to Vienna, where he started to study singing. He graduated from the Conservatory with a major in solo singing and from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in musical-dramatic representation (opera), as well as in song and oratorio.

Because of his passion for flying, he has been a private pilot since 2014.

Since completing his training, Marco Di Sapia has established himself in the international theater landscape with his wide-ranging repertoire. On stage, he played Sweeney Todd in the musical of the same name, Bud Frump in How to Make a Career Without Exerting yourself and Dr. Falcon in The Bat .

In 2014 Marco Di Sapia starred in the film Paganini - The Devil's Violinist (directed by Bernard Rose). He also took on episode roles in Alarm for Cobra 11 (2017) and SOKO Stuttgart (2018). In 2019 he had a guest appearance in the city comedy The Case of Gerti B. In 2020 he played the lawyer Dr. Hofer in Dennstein & Schwarz - Pro bono, what else? .

Marco Di Sapia worked with director Leo Bauer in November 2019 on a theatrical version (F * cktalk) of the film Sexgeflüster. He was also in front of the camera in 2019 for the film Disco (director: Evi Romen ).

Among other things, he sang in the French premieres of Jetzt ( Mathis Nitschke ) and What next? ( Elliott Carter ) at the Opéra National de Montpellier , the Alidoro in La Cenerentola at the National Theater Bucharest and the Guglielmo in Così fan tutte at the Murten Classics summer festival. Engagements have taken him to the Opéra de Limoges, the Opéra Théâtre de St. Etienne, the Opéra de Rouen, the Kassel State Theater, the Klagenfurt City Theater, the Teatro Poliziano, the Bregenz Festival and the Nuremberg State Theater.

Marco Di Sapia not only played Mozart roles such as Don Giovanni and Leporello, but also Cavaliere Belfiore in Verdi's Un giorno di regno , Don Profondo in Rossini's Il viaggio a Reims , Jupiter in Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld , the four villains in Hoffmann's tales , Faninal in Der Rosenkavalier , Morales in Carmen , Bonuses in Die Csárdásfürstin and Heger in Rusalka .

Since 2013 he has been a permanent member of the Volksoper Vienna ensemble . There he stood as Dr. Pillerl and Dr. Completely in Friedrich Cerha's Uncle President , The Director in Viva la Mamma (G. Donizetti), Chaunard in La Bohème , Papageno in The Magic Flute or Danilo in The Merry Widow on the Stage. At the Neue Oper Wien he has sung Kowaljoff in Shostakovich's Die Nase , Sid in Britten's Albert Herring , The Husband and Der Privatier in Bernhard Lang's Der Reigen and Walter Pfrimer / Anton Rintelen / Otto Bauer in Otto M. Zykan’s State Operetta.

Di Sapia can currently be seen at the Vienna Volksoper in the plays König Karotte , Die Fledermaus , Carmen , La traviata , Der Zigeunerbaron and Schoenberg in Hollywood .
