Marco "Toni" Sailer (born November 16, 1985 in Schwäbisch Hall ) is a former German soccer player . He last played for the fourth division club FSV Wacker 90 Nordhausen . Before that, he played with SV Darmstadt 98 for a year in the Bundesliga .

Career

As a child, Sailer learned to play football at TSV Bitzfeld . As a teenager he joined the VfR Heilbronn . In 2004 he moved to the regional league team VfR Aalen and became a regular player in his first season in the second half of the season. In 2008 he qualified with the club for the newly founded single-track 3rd division . There he secured his club's first win in the new division on July 26, 2008 with his goal to make it 2-1. In the further course of the season he turned out to be the most accurate Aalen striker with twelve goals in 34 games. Nevertheless, the VfR rose again in the now fourth-rate Regionalliga Süd . This also invalidated Sailer's contract, which only applied to the 2nd or 3rd league.

For the 2009/10 season Sailer moved to the second division SpVgg Greuther Fürth and signed a two-year contract with an option for another year. After he had not been able to assert himself in Fürth and was mainly used as a substitute, he returned to the 3rd division after a year and joined SV Wehen Wiesbaden , where he signed a two-year contract. Half a year before the end of his contract, he switched to league rivals 1. FC Heidenheim during the 2011/12 winter break , who had been looking for a replacement for two injured strikers. After three games he had played his way into the starting line-up and scored three goals by the end of the season. The following season was successful for Heidenheim; with the fifth place you missed the promotion ranks to the 2nd Bundesliga by one point. Sailer scored a goal of the season in 22 appearances.

For the 2013/14 season, the striker moved to SV Darmstadt 98 . With the team he rose in the next two seasons from the third to the Bundesliga . He made his Bundesliga debut on August 15, 2015 (1st matchday) in a 2-2 draw in the home game against Hannover 96 ; He scored his first goal on October 2, 2015 (8th matchday) in the 2: 3 defeat in the home game against FSV Mainz 05 with the goal of the interim 2: 2 in the 57th minute - eleven minutes after being substituted for Jan Rosenthal . In Darmstadt, Sailer was celebrated by the fans as a crowd favorite. In May 2016 Darmstadt 98 announced that the contract, which expired at the end of the season, would not be extended. On May 14, he played his last Bundesliga game for the lilies.

For the 2016/17 season Marco Sailer moved to FSV Wacker 90 Nordhausen in the fourth-class Regionalliga Nordost . With the Nordhausen reserve team, he became champions of the Thuringian League in 2017 and 2018 and was promoted to the league in the second year.

Private

On December 23, 2015, he married his partner Lara Frank, who made him a vegan . The couple had a daughter in March 2016.
