Marc Michael "Marco" Spitzar (born May 28, 1964 in Georgsmarienhütte ) is a German-Austrian conceptual artist and media specialist. He lives and works in Schwarzach in Vorarlberg .

Life

Marc Michael Spitzar was born in Northern Germany in 1964. After moving to Bludenz , Vorarlberg in 1977 , he attended the HTBLVA Graz-Ortweinschule from 1980 to 1986 . He then studied from 1987 to 1992 the master class sculpture Bruno Gironcoli at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . Between 1996 and 1998, lengthy stays in Senegal (West Africa) are part of his résumé. In addition to numerous exhibitions as an organizer and artist, prizes and awards, he worked as a consultant, conceptionist and creative director for larger advertising agencies.

In 1999, Marco Spitzar and his then business partner founded the Spitzar agency based in Vorarlberg. In 2014 the separation took place and Marco Spitzar founded the studio spitzar in 2015 with a vision.

The Page magazine wrote in the online edition of February 2016: "I like Page .... Studio Spitzar from Dornbirn that bathes itself in soft pink, pressed flowers and einschweißt rubber boots and so exciting corporate design created, most beautiful Packingdesign - and magnificent irritation"

One color and one motif that has determined Marco Spitzar's work since 1999 is the color olive green. At the beginning it was military motifs that cast a spell over the declared pacifist Spitzar, but later he takes the duality of color and image to absurdity by removing everyday objects from their context and placing them in a new context by covering them with military green puts.

His pictures radiate a reserved, cool reserve and at the same time are very present, demanding and intense. His compositions are unusual, confusing and enigmatic. Human figures wear pretzels on tiptoe, on their chins, or vaguely balancing and then leaning back against heads. Are they scenes from a theater performance or a circus performance? "

UHU has played an important role in Marco Spitzar's work for over 35 years . He runs through all phases of his work. With the adhesive, Spitzar creates new surface structures in his pictures that make the contents transparent and sublime. He is thus moving away from a flat to a three-dimensional representation. He achieves this structure and its effect by applying UHU several times, which hardening results in the characteristic bubbles and thus a special plasticity. The UHU container, the “nimble bottle”, also has a special place in his oeuvre, which also appears again and again as a basic form and motif.

In 2018 Marco Spitzar received the Joseph Binder Award. For the program of the Vorarlberger Landestheater 2017/18 Spitzar designed ten motifs using adhesive technology. Its content relates to the plays of the season, the main theme of which is the tension between power and play, male and female, large and small.
