Marco Travaglio (born October 13, 1964 in Turin ) is an Italian journalist , publicist and writer .

Life

After graduating from a Liceo classico ( humanistic grammar school ), Travaglio studied history at the University of Turin and graduated with a laurea in Storia contemporanea ( contemporary history ). From 1987 he worked for Indro Montanelli at Il Giornale , with him he moved to La Voce in 1994 . He has been a full-time journalist since 1992. When La Voce was hired in 1995, he initially worked as a freelancer for various newspapers ( Il Messaggero , Il Giorno , L'Indipendente ), and since 1998 he has been a permanent contributor to La Repubblica , and he gained his first television experience with Enzo Biagi and his show Il fatto . Contributions by Travaglio also appear in L'Espresso , MicroMega or Unità .

Marco Travaglio is co-founder of the daily newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano, which has been published since 2009, and has also been its vice director since October 2010. In February 2015 he succeeded Antonio Padellaro as director of Fatto. His topics include the mafia , the tension between justice and politics in Italy and especially the scandals and mistakes of Silvio Berlusconi and his closest colleagues and confidants. Awards and honors

  • On April 28, 2009, the German Association of Journalists awarded him the “DJV Prize for Press Freedom 2009”. This decision of a jury made up of seven members of the association was explained by Michael Konken , chairman of the German Association of Journalists, as follows: "With Marco Travaglio we are honoring a courageous and critical colleague who is committed to promoting freedom of the press in Italy against all odds " . Other recipients of the award in recent years have been journalist Miroslav Filipovic and Russian reporter Olga Kitova. Filipović received the award for his article on the atrocities against civilians in Kosovo by the Yugoslav army, while Olga Kitova was honored for her fight against corruption in Russia.
  • In February 2010 Marco Travaglio was awarded the Premiolino , the oldest and most prestigious award for journalism in Italy. It is awarded annually to six journalists in recognition of their careers and their contribution to press freedom.
