Marcus John Sherels (* the thirtieth September 1987 in Rochester , Minnesota ) is an American American football poker players on the position of cornerback and punt returner . Most recently he worked for the Minnesota Vikings in the National Football League (NFL), where he holds numerous special teams franchise records. He was also under contract with the New Orleans Saints and the Miami Dolphins .

college

Sherels, who also made a name for himself as a basketball player in high school , attended the University of Minnesota and successfully played college football for their team, the Golden Gophers . He started as a walk-on and initially played as a wide receiver and in the special teams, but was converted into a cornerback. He scored two touchdowns , four interceptions and 106 tackles between 2007 and 2009 .

NFL

Minnesota Vikings (2010-2019)

In the NFL Draft 2010 Sherels was not taken into account, but was then signed by the Minnesota Vikings as a free agent . Although he did not make it into the active squad, he was able to secure a place in the practice squad and then even made his first appearance as a professional in the last game of the season against the Detroit Lions .
In 2011 he was called up as a return specialist and was used as a nickelback on certain moves . As his team was injury-plagued, he could even three times as starter accrue.
In the following years he developed into a decisive player personality in the special teams, with his achievements as a punt returner standing out in particular. In this position, Sherels holds various franchise records.

New Orleans Saints (2019)

On March 21, 2019, he signed a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints , who just recognized the need for action for the punt return.
In the course of the squad reduction at the beginning of the regular season , he was initially placed on the injured reserve list and released a day later.

Minnesota Vikings (2019)

On September 24, 2019, Sherels was re-signed by the Minnesota Vikings .

Miami Dolphins (2019)

After he was released after just a month, the Miami Dolphins secured his services. After only 5 games, however, he was released again here.

Minnesota Vikings (2019)

On January 3, 2020, the Vikings signed him for the second time in the current season.
