Marcus Wedau (born December 31, 1975 in Soltau ) is a former German soccer player .
Club career
Wedau already made his debut as a defender in the second division as a youth player at Bayer 05 Uerdingen on the first day of the 1993/94 season , July 28, 1993 . In the 3-0 defeat in Wolfsburg , he was replaced in the 74th minute and only made a brief appearance this season.
After Uerdinger's return to the Bundesliga , he was not used in the first half of the season , but became a regular in midfield in the second half of the 1994/95 season . On the 19th matchday against Hamburger SV , he initiated the Uerdingen 4-1 victory with his first Bundesliga goal to equalize 1-1. In the 1995/96 season he was in 32 games on the field, but could not prevent the relegation of the now renamed KFC Uerdingen 05. He played in Krefeld until the end of the 1997/98 season , before he followed his former coach Friedhelm Funkel to MSV Duisburg .
In the Wedaustadion Wedau played two years in the first and one more season in the second division. In 2001 he moved to the second division club LR Ahlen , where he came to eight missions. For the 2002/2003 season he moved to the Regionalliga Nord for Rot-Weiss Essen . With RWE he rose to the second division in 2004; after the direct relegation , he went to regional league competitor VfL Osnabrück .
In 2006 Wedau moved to Australia, where he played for Queensland Roar in the A-League , but was only used ten times due to injuries. In the summer of 2007 he returned to Germany for family reasons and in October signed a new contract with his old Uerdingen employer, who was playing in the Oberliga Nordrhein at that time. In summer 2009 he ended his active career with the Krefeld team.
Wedau made 93 games (seven goals) in the Bundesliga and 96 appearances (ten goals) in the second division.
In 1992 he became European champion with the German U-16 selection in Cyprus . Between 1995 and 1998 he made a total of 12 appearances in the U-21 national team.
