Maren Baumbach (born January 14, 1981 in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt ) is a former German handball player .
career
She began playing handball at the age of eight at TV Oeffingen , under coach Eberhard Schreiner, and moved to VfL Waiblingen four years later . From 1999 Baumbach played one season each for TuS Metzingen and TuS Eintracht Minden . From 2001 to 2007 she was under contract with the Bundesliga club DJK / MJC Trier and won the German championship there in 2003. For the 2007/08 season, the 1.70 m tall playmaker moved to Denmark for FCK Håndbold . From the summer of 2009, Baumbach paused for a year. Then Baumbach returned to the Bundesliga and played for VfL Sindelfingen . When the club filed for bankruptcy a year later, she ended her career.
Maren Baumbach, who mostly played in the middle of the back , was part of the national team from 2000 , for which she scored 341 goals in 120 international matches. She took part in the European Championships in 2004 (5th place) and 2006 (4th place). Shortly after the 2008 Olympics , she resigned from the national team.
Baumbach has been the team manager of the German women's national team since September 2019.
Private
Maren Baumbach studied mathematics and sport in Saarbrücken to become a teacher.
She is the great cousin of Sabine Ansel, a fistball player from Stuttgart who is two years older than her, who has been German champion six times with Ahlhorner SV and European champion three times with the German national team and 2006 world champion.
Her brother Jens also played handball for the then second division TV Bittenfeld . She works at the Gustav-Stresemann-Gymnasium in Schmiden.
