Margarete Schulz
Margarete Schulz (born January 27, 1916 in Kriescht ; † February 13, 2003 ) was a German seamstress and politician ( SED ). From 1958 to 1971 she was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR .
Life
Margarete Schulz was born as the daughter of a worker in the Oststernberg district. She attended elementary school and trained as a dressmaker from 1930 to 1931 (without qualification). From 1931 to 1934 she worked as a farm worker in Neuhardenberg in the Lebus district . From 1932 to 1933 she was a member of the International Red Aid . In 1935 she was a domestic worker in Berlin and from 1936 to 1941 a housewife. From 1942 to 1945 she was employed as a self-employed laundress in Berlin.
After the Second World War she became a member of the KPD in 1945 and of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) in 1946. She was a housewife again in 1946 and worked as a horticultural worker from 1947 to 1949. During this time she became a member of the DSF and the DFD in 1948 and of the FDGB in 1949 . In the same year she began to work as a tailor in the VEB men's clothing "Progress" in Berlin-Lichtenberg and in 1951 became a member of the company's works party organization (BPO). From 1953 to 1958 she was a member of the Berlin city council and was a member of the Standing Commission for Transport. She graduated from the engineering school for the clothing industry in Berlin in 1956 as a “master of the state's own industry”. In November 1958 she was sent by the city council as Berlin representative to the Volkskammer, where she was a member of the SED parliamentary group and from 1963 to 1967 a member of the budget and finance committee and from 1967 to 1971 of the trade and supply committee. Margarete Schulz most recently worked at VEB Treffmodelle Kombinat Oberbekleidung Berlin.
Margarete Schulz was married and had one child. She died at the age of 87 and was buried in the St. Georgen II cemetery in Berlin .
