Margaretha von Baden (* 1452 ; † January 14, 1496 in Lichtental ) was an abbess from the Lichtenthal monastery . Before that she was abbess in the Marienau monastery .

She was the daughter of Margrave Karl I of Baden and Catherine of Austria .

Margaretha von Baden was probably the most colorful figure among the Marienau prelates. The Lichtenthaler Chronik reports about Margarethe: “Has been a freylein for two years, but is particularly light with innocence of your life.” 20. Abbess ruled until her death in 1495. It is interesting to note that Margaretha was sent to Lichtenthal, although Anna Strauler still held the office of abbess there. But this was apparently forced to resign at the instigation of the Margraves of Baden.

In the fresco “Train of the Blessed” by Martin Schongauer on the south wall of the St. Stephen's Cathedral in Breisach there is a portrait of her. It shows Emperor Friedrich III. with his wife Eleonore Helena of Portugal and his niece Margaretha. A second portrait in the Abbess Gallery in Lichtenthal shows Margaretha as the abbess of this abbey.

At the initiative of the Abbess Margaretha von Baden, towards the end of the 15th century , the abbey church was decorated with valuable works of late Gothic art in the Lichtenthal Abbey.

Margaretha has the following siblings:

and Anna, illegitimate sister, married Johannes Henne in 1471
