Visitation of the Virgin Mary (Burglahr)
The Catholic Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Burglahr , a local community in the Altenkirchen (Westerwald) district in Rhineland-Palatinate , was built in the second half of the 17th century. The chapel at the foot of Lahr Castle is a protected architectural monument .
history
The Lahr glory was subordinate to the Electorate of Cologne . The castle was probably inhabited until the beginning of the 18th century and probably also had a castle chapel, which like the castle was left to decay. In the second half of the 17th century, a new chapel was built on the castle hill, which was expanded in 1851.
architecture
That of the Visitation consecrated chapel is a hall building , the 8.75 and 3.70 m long m wide. The single-nave , plastered quarry stone building closes with a three-sided choir . A small bell tower on the slate-covered gable roof sits in the middle of the roof ridge .
Furnishing
The 3.25 m high wooden altar is adorned with a baroque Madonna . The lead glass windows on the long sides were installed in the 20th century.
