The branch church of St. Mariä Himmelfahrt at Church 6 is in the Wanlo district in Mönchengladbach ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It was built in 1752. The building was entered under no. A 034 on January 30, 1992 in the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach .

history

A church in Wanlo was first mentioned in the Liber valoris from around 1308. At that time Wanlo was already an independent parish . This church was a single-nave Romanesque building from the 13th century, which was largely preserved until the current nave was built in 1898. In 1729 this single nave church was enlarged by two small aisles and a new choir. The bell tower collapsed on April 4, 1752, after which the construction of a new tower began on June 14, 1752, which is still preserved today.

Since the old parish church had become too small, the church was demolished in 1898 and replaced by today's three-aisled building in neo-Gothic style by 1900 , only the baroque bell tower was taken over and in 1900 the fourth octagonal storey was added. The plans for the new building were created by the Neuss architect Julius Busch .

On January 1st 2010 the parish of St. Mariä Himmelfahrt / Wanlo was dissolved and merged with the also dissolved parishes of St. Antonius / Wickrath and Herz Jesu / Wickrathhahn to form the new large parish of St. Matthias. Parish church became the Wickrath church, since then St. Mary's Assumption is a branch church of this parish.

Sound assessment of the peal

after music director Jakob Schaeben, Euskirchen near Cologne (1905–1980)

In order to achieve the absolute accuracy of the abandoned tuning line, the brass knuckles at III and IV, and at V a ring on the inner upper part were slightly re-ground after the casting. The structure of the new individual sounds is almost completely straight in the principal tone area, in the rich and uniformly occupied mixtures free of cheeky disturbing tones with harmoniously seated secondary tones. The measured vibration values are around 50% above the required and thus indicate that the sounds develop with a lively temperament. All in all, the bells following the old sounds can be judged as being brought into the best possible musical form.
