Parish Church of the Assumption

Assumption of Mary is a Roman Catholic church in Ullstadt ( Archdiocese of Bamberg ). The church was named after the Assumption of Mary , which is celebrated as a solemn festival on August 15th.

Originally Ullstadt was subordinate to the Lords of Seckendorff and was Protestant when they converted to Martin Luther's teaching in 1522. In 1662 the patronage passed to the Catholic Lords of Frankenstein , who had acquired the Ullstadt manor and its possessions. They used the Heilig-Kreuz cemetery chapel, built in 1606, for Catholic worship. In 1731 the chapel was enlarged and received a new altar, new chairs and an organ. In 1808 a tower was added. In 1876 the chapel, which had become too small, was finally torn down and the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin was built in its place, which was consecrated on June 24, 1877 under Pastor Johann Braun by Friedrich von Schreiber , the Archbishop of Bamberg. The founders were Georg von Frankenstein and his wife Maria, née Princess Oettingen-Wallerstein . The builder was Albert from Markt Bibart .

Ullstadt originally belonged to the diocese of Würzburg . In 1767 it was raised to a parish. In 1802 it was incorporated into the Archdiocese of Bamberg.

The current parish of Ullstadt includes the Catholic residents of Langenfeld , Hohenholz , Baudenbach , Höfen , Hambühl , Ober- and Unterlaimbach , Frankenfeld and Ullstadt. Until 1999 Ullstadt had its own pastor. In the same year it was affiliated with the parish of St. Marien (Markt Bibart) . The parish of Ullstadt has around 547 parishioners and has been part of the Southern Steigerwald pastoral care area since 2012.
