Mari Ōsaka ( Japanese 大 坂 ま り , Ōsaka Mari ; born April 3, 1996 in Osaka , Osaka Prefecture ) is a Japanese tennis player .

Career

Osaka prefers to play on the ITF Women's Circuit , but has not yet won a tournament there. Mari Osaka played her first professional match in January 2011 in Plantation . She won her first match a year later in May 2012 in Raleigh against Jessica Roland-Rosario . In September 2012 she reached a final for the first time at the $ 10,000 tournament in Amelia Island , where she lost to Jamie Loeb 3-6 and 5-7. In 2013 she was in the main round of a $ 50,000 tournament in Lexington for the first time, where she lost to Lauren Embree 2-6 and 4-6. Mari Ōsaka's father Leonard "San" François comes from Haiti , her Japanese mother Tamaki Ōsaka comes from the Japanese island of Hokkaidō . The family later moved to Florida because of the better training opportunities .

Her sister Naomi , who is one and a half years younger , also plays tennis professionally; she won so far u. a. the US Open 2018 and the Australian Open 2019.
