Mari Heini Emilia Pehkonen (born February 6, 1985 in Tampere ) is a former Finnish national ice hockey player . Most recently she played on the Providence College ice hockey team , the Friars .
Career
Mari Pehkonen started her career at Tappara in her hometown Tampere and made her debut in 1998 at the age of 13 in the Naisten SM-sarja , the highest Finnish ice hockey league . In the 2003/04 season she was the team's best scorer. In 2005 she won the Finnish Junior Championship with Ilves Tampere's U20 team , where she was the top scorer of the final tournament.
In 2001 she was also a member of the Finnish U17 national football team. Between 2002 and 2005 she played for the Finnish U22 national ice hockey team.
For Finland she took part in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and reached fourth place with her team. At the women's ice hockey world championship in 2008 , she won the bronze medal with the national team.
