Maria Frieden is a Roman Catholic church in Groß-Buchholz , a district of Hanover ( Lower Saxony ). The church is a branch church of the parish of St. Martin in the Hannover deanery of the Hildesheim diocese , but is now used by the Polish Catholic Mission. The church is named after the Queen of Peace , a Marian title from the Lauretan Litany , and is located in Stilleweg 12.

history

The foundation stone of the church was laid in the autumn of 1963, and its consecration on May 8, 1965 . On July 1, 1965, the Hannover-Buchholz parish was established. The church has been used by the Polish Catholic Mission since 1965, and today it is the main user of the church. The Polish Catholic Mission covers the entire city of Hanover and its surroundings. Occasionally, the German congregation still holds church services on weekdays, and the parish hall is still used by them.

Architecture and equipment

The church was built as a central building according to plans by the architect Brenninkmeyer (Hanover). A statue created by the Polish artist Czeslaw Dzwigaj represents John Paul II. Today's organ , built by the organ builder Simon , has replaced the previous instrument since 2005.

  • Niels Stensen Monastery. From 1959 there was a Poor Clare Monastery (Milanstrasse 1/3). In 1966 today's monastery church was built according to plans by the architect Brenninkmeyer (Hanover). Her consecration took place on December 17, 1966 , and the chancel is under the tower. In 1998 the monastery was dissolved by the poor sisters of St. Clare (Poor Clares) and the convent moved to the Poor Clare monastery in Bad Neuenahr . From 1998 to 2012 the monastery was inhabited by Polish Discalced Carmelite Sisters who previously lived in Iceland . Carmelites, who previously lived in the Michaelis Abbey in Lembeck , have been living in the monastery since 2013 .
