Poor Clare Monastery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Klarissenkloster (Clarissenkloster) is a monastery of the women's order of the Poor Clares (Second Order of St. Francis, Seraphic Order, OSC), with its various directions (observances).

As members of the Franciscan Order (2nd order), the Poor Clares live in poverty, and mostly in strict enclosure , reform directions are the Alcantarinnen (barefoot, OSCDisc), Colettinnen (poor sisters; Poor Clares of St. Colette , OSCCol) and Capuchin Poor Clares ( OSCCap), the urbanists (OSCUrb) also run schools and boarding schools. Poor Clare monasteries are always organized independently and run by an abbess, but form numerous collaborations. In total there are around 750 Poor Clare monasteries worldwide, with around 16,000 sisters (2003: 13,450 Poor Clares, 2,250 Capuchin Clarissi) in over 76 countries.
