Marian Rada (born May 14, 1960 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach . In his active career he played 189 games in Divizia A , the highest Romanian football league.

Career as a player

Rada's career began at Autobuzul Bucharest , where he joined the squad of the first team that played in Divizia B at the time in 1981 . In 1983, local rivals Rapid Bucharest signed him . There he quickly established himself as a regular. The 1983/84 graduated from the newly promoted to the league, the following two seasons, he landed in the middle of the Divizia A . After three years he moved within the league to Universitatea Craiova , which played for the UEFA Cup places. In the 1986/87 season he reached a fifth place with his new team and played for the first time in the European Cup , where he reached the second round with his team after a win against Galatasaray Istanbul and was eliminated there against the eventual finalists Dundee United .

After he was hardly used in the first half of the 1987/88 season, Rada left Craiova and returned to Rapid Bucharest. At the end of the season he had to relegate Rapid to Divizia B, but managed to get promoted again immediately. In 1991 he ended his active career.

National team

Rada played two appearances for the Romanian national team . In March 1986, the then national coach Mircea Lucescu appointed him to his squad for an international trip to Iraq. There he made his debut on March 14, 1986 in the first game against the hosts . In the second game three days later, he was used over the full distance.

Career as a coach

After the end of his active career, Rada worked in various functions for his former club Rapid Bucharest . He had to help out several times as an interim trainer. In the 2007/08 season he stepped in for the resigned Mircea Rednic in March 2008 and led the team into the UEFA Cup before retiring to the second tier. At the beginning of 2009, he took over from José Peseiro as head coach, but resigned six match days before the end of the season when the European Cup qualification that was missed at the end was in danger. At the end of April 2011, he took over the post of dismissed Marius Șumudică and led Rapid at the end of the 2010/11 season in the Europa League . He then became an assistant coach under the new head coach Răzvan Lucescu . In October 2012 he rose again to head coach. At the end of the 2012/13 season , Rapid had to relegate to Liga II at the green table . In August 2013, Rada switched to the position of head of the youth department at Rapid. At the end of September 2014 he gave up this post to train the first team again. After only three points from nine games, his contract was terminated at the end of 2014. He has been looking after ACS Berceni in Liga II since November 2015 .
