Marian Reutter

Marian Reutter (born January 10, 1734 in Vienna ; † October 21, 1805 there ) was an Austrian Cistercian and 58th abbot of the Heiligenkreuz Abbey .

Life

His father Georg Reutter the Younger was court conductor at the Viennese court. On July 2, 1753, Marian took his religious vows in Heiligenkreuz and celebrated his first ceremony on July 2, 1757 . He first taught theology at the Institute's Theologicum of the monastery and then worked as a parish administrator ; from 1761 to 1765 in Trumau and from 1771 to 1776 in Münchendorf . Reutter held the office of subprior and novice master from September 1776 to January 1778 and worked as a librarian from 1777 to 1778. 1778 began again as a parish administrator in Münchendorf, this time for ten years. In May 1788 he was appointed prior of the monastery and used as administrator. After Emperor Leopold II had given permission to elect an abbot after more than three years of vacancy, Marian Reutter was elected on November 10, 1790 and died as an abbot, senior and jubilee professor in Vienna on October 21, 1805. His body was transferred to the monastery and im Convent cemetery buried.

The painter István Dorfmeister portrayed Reutter at the Lyceum in Steinamanger in 1794.
