biography

Salchinger started skiing at an early age and therefore switched from the local high school in Köflach to the main ski school and later the ski trade school in Schladming . In the 1991/92 season she was finally included in the squad of the ÖSV . Her first World Cup start was in Veysonnaz in February 1993 , but in the following years she mainly competed in FIS races and in the European Cup . In 1994 she injured her shoulder and briefly flew out of the ÖSV squad.

Marianna Salchinger achieved her sporting breakthrough by winning the overall European Cup in the 1996/97 and 1997/98 seasons despite a torn cruciate ligament in the spring of 1997. By winning the discipline rankings in Downhill and Super-G, she earned a permanent place in the Austrian competition World cup team.

For the first time, Salchinger reached World Cup points on November 29, 1997 as 29th in the Super-G of Mammoth Mountain . As a result, she achieved a number of good placements in both downhill and super-G, including two places in the top 10 (5th in the downhill from St. Moritz and 6th in the super-G in Lake Louise in the 1998/99 season ). However, she did not succeed in making the leap to the top of the world. In 2000, Marianna Salchinger had to undergo cartilage surgery on her knee and had to take a six-month break. As a result, she no longer achieved her previous achievements and ended her career after the 2000/01 season .
