Marie Hüsing (born September 4, 1909 in Obernbeck ; † September 9, 1995 in Siegen - Geisweid ) was a Protestant deaconess , poet and writer . There were over 40 publications in book form and other brochures . Through her work as a writer and by leading Bible camps and lectures, the deaconess gained popularity in Christian circles in Germany during her lifetime .

Life

The motherhouse of the Sarepta Sisterhood

Marie Hüsing had a difficult childhood in the Herford district in Westphalia . At this time, tuberculosis spread rapidly in her homeland, the Ravensberger Land , with her family as dairy farmers being particularly hard hit. When Marie Hüsing was seven years old, her mother died of it. At this point in time, her father was a soldier in the First World War . Due to the death of other relatives from this infectious disease, she and her siblings had to leave their parents' farm in Obernbeck and move to their grandfather in Mennighüffen . At the age of 14 she ran the household of the family of five on her own, because her father's second wife had also died. When her younger sister was able to take on this task, she fulfilled her wish for life and joined the motherhouse of the Sarepta Sisterhood of the Von Bodelschwinghschen Anstalten Bethel - today v. Bodelschwingh Foundation Bethel - to become a deaconess. There she was trained as a nurse, child and community nurse from 1938 . There she spent the years of the Second World War .

From 1946 she worked for eight years as a parish sister in the Christ Church parish Lüdenscheid -Wildmecke. There she met the pastor Paul Deitenbeck , with whom she worked in community service and later also literary. From 1954 to 1962 she was in charge of the Winnebrockhaus nursing school in Halle (Westphalia) . From 1962 she worked for eight years in Quernheim Abbey , Kirchlengern municipality . Most recently, as a housemother, she looked after mentally ill people in Bethel, near her mother house, Sarepta.

After finishing her professional activity, Marie Hüsing moved to her friend and work colleague Annemarie Karsemeijer in Utrecht in the Netherlands in 1974 . There she used her free time to work as a writer. She led Bible seminars and camps well into old age. She died on September 9, 1995 during a spare time she directed at the Patmos House in Siegen-Geisweid. Her final resting place is in the old cemetery of the von Bodelschwingh Foundation Bethel in Bielefeld.

Marie Hüsing's poems and quotations are still used today on websites, in sermons and in congregational letters. Due to Marie Hüsing's residence in Utrecht and the transfer of the text rights to her Dutch friend Annemarie Karsemeijer, her texts have also appeared in book form in the Netherlands and are used there. The Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine regularly uses texts by Marie Hüsing as the “third text” for their Moravian slogans and for the prayer text in the “slogans for young people”.

One of the most widely used poems is Unterwegs from her book Heller Horizont . It is still available today as a card and poster.
