Mario Fesler (born June 11, 1978 in Mannheim ) is a German writer . The debut novel Lizzy carbon and the club of losers of children's books author , as part of the Frankfurt Book Fair with the October 2017 German Youth Literature Prize awarded.

Life

Mario Fesler, born in Mannheim in 1978, grew up in the Hessian Odenwald and spent his youth in the Lindenfels district of Eulsbach . After graduating from the Martin Luther School in Rimbach in 1998 and completing his community service, Fesler began studying at the Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg . In 2001 he moved from Erlangen to Berlin , where he studied theater studies and modern German literature at the Free University . In 2007 he completed his studies with a master's degree. In his thesis, Fesler dealt with the Zamonien novels by Walter Moers .

Act

During his studies, Fesler published the article La Bomba in the short story collection Terror: Embrace of Evil by Marco Frohberger and Robert Herbig in 2004 . For his previously unpublished youth book The Truth About Oliver , he was nominated for the children's and youth book prize Der Goldene Pick in 2012 . In it he describes how a sick boy who has to spend a lot of time in a hospital escapes in his imagination to Hebron, a strange world full of adventure, in which Oliver is a hero with a clear mission.

In July 2016, Magellan Verlag published Fesler's debut novel Lizzy Carbon and the Losers Club . Britta Selle, children's and youth book editor at MDR Kultur , says that Fesler does not shy away from big and small truths in his book: “There is clearly talk of bullying and exclusion, injustice and venom are shown. At the same time, he looks at different family constellations and the difficulties that accompany growing up . ”Fesler used the Martin Luther School he attended in Rimbach as the backdrop for his debut novel.

In August 2016 he presented the book at the 36th edition of the Erlanger Poetenfest and in September 2017 at the European Children's and Youth Book Fair in Saarbrücken, where the novel was nominated for the Franco-German Youth Literature Prize.

As part of the Frankfurt Book Fair , Fesler was awarded the first-ever New Talents Prize of the German Youth Literature Prize for his debut novel in October 2017 . The jury's reasoning stated: "With his feeling for accurate dialogues and his sympathy for his characters, Mario Fesler is a special new talent and an asset to German-language children's and youth literature ."

In July 2017, Magellan Verlag published Lizzy Carbon and the Miracles of Love, the second book in the trilogy about Lizzy Carbon, which ended in July 2018 with Lizzy Carbon and the agony of choice . After the series is over, Fesler says he plans to write a children's crime thriller. In July 2019 Magellan Verlag published its children's crime thriller Extremely dangerous! - Mouse on a mission .

Fesler lives in his adopted home Berlin, where he has worked as a team leader in customer service at a toy retailer since completing his studies and has also designed and moderated quizzes in Berlin pubs and pubs since 2004 .
