Marion Porten

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marion Porten (* 1972 in Munich ) is a German sculptor and video artist .

life and work

Marion Porten studied sculpture at the Dresden University of Fine Arts from 1993–1998 and was a master class student there from 1998–2000 . 1998–2000 she studied film and video at the Braunschweig University of Fine Arts . Since 2006 she has been teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in the field of video and video installation. The artist lives and works in Vienna and Leipzig.

Marion Porten uses precisely observed phenomena to develop aesthetic constructions that impress with their sensual presence and open up new interpretations and perspectives. Often based on the artistically well thought-out documentation of a cultural context of discrimination , the works always point beyond this. Room-filling video installations touch on artistic and social issues, often with a fine sense of humor. Videos and objects form an extended space for reflection on the arguments negotiated.
